Qigong

What is it?  Qi is defined as life force. It comes with the heavens, earth, within our bodies and all around us. Gong means cultivation or practice. The art and practice of Qigong is the 'cultivation of life force'.

There are two forms of Qigong; external and internal. The form of doing Tai Chi Chuan is one of many external forms of Qigong. But then, it too has an internal aspect, which is not always taught.

There are numerous sets of exercises designed to strengthen the body but also cultivate Qi. Other practices focus on the internal aspect more; setting intention, use of attention and breath, sound and visualization all to activate the flow of Qi; healing energy.

The practitioner learns to gather, store and direct Qi. Depending on the practice, one can move from the external to internal, or internal to external; they are not mutually exclusive but integrated.

Qigong Meditation is an internal practice and expression of Qigong. Coming from Taoist tradition, the use of breath, imagery and sound, as well as movement, sets of meditations have been developed to heal internally as well as project and guide Qi to facilitate healing.

Qi manifests itself in different forms, images, sounds, colors and/or sensations. Sometimes an 'inexplicable urge', an inner knowing, to interact in a certain manner - an internal voice guiding the healing or 'suggesting' an intervention, is experienced.

Practitioners' experience Qi differently. There is no hierarchy of expression.
